Laser Frenectomy
We're happy to be one of the only dentists in Michigan to offer laser frenectomy to correct tongue-tied children!
A lingual frenectomy, or a tongue tie release, is a safe and straightforward procedure that uses advanced laser technology to correct tongue-tied patients.
When a child is tongue tied, the frenulum, a small piece of tissue that connects to the tongue, is too small. This restricts the movement of the tongue and results in uncomfortable side effects, like difficulty eating and breastfeeding, pain in the jaw, and speech issues.
A laser frenectomy involves releasing a child's frenulum from its attachment, allowing for proper tooth alignment and a full range of motion of the tongue. Traditional procedures include sniping or slicing the frenulum with a surgical knife. Children typically undergo anesthesia and suffer through a long, often painful recovery. We perform a quick, virtually painless laser frenectomy. Our procedure does not require anesthesia, and it reduces recovery time.
The benefits of a laser frenectomy:
Virtually pain-free
Lower risk of infection
Minimal bleeding
Requires no anesthesia, which is especially preferable when treating infants and toddlers
Shorter recovery time
Short operation time, only one or two minutes
No stitches or sutures required
Dr. Gail has extensive experience performing safe and effective frenectomies that reverse the side effects of being tongue-tied and restore healthy oral function.
Are laser frenectomy procedures safe?
Laser frenectomies are extraordinarily precise, quick, and safe. Unlike traditional frenectomies, there is no need for general anesthesia. Your child will only have minimal discomfort or swelling, and recovery time is faster.
